To share a Wi-Fi password from an iPhone to an Android phone, show a Wi-Fi QR code on your iPhone and have the Android phone scan it with its camera; it joins without typing anything. The other way is to look up the password on your iPhone and read it out or copy it into a message. Apple’s automatic Share Password pop-up won’t help here, because it only works between Apple devices.
Why the iPhone “Share Password” pop-up doesn’t work with Android #
Apple’s password sharing is the prompt that appears when a nearby friend taps your network. Apple’s requirements for it include that both devices run the latest iOS, iPadOS or macOS, both people are signed into their Apple Accounts, each has the other in Contacts, and Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are on. An Android phone can’t meet those conditions, so the prompt never appears.
That leaves two approaches: a QR code or the password itself.
Method 1: Show a Wi-Fi QR code on your iPhone #
This is the fastest way for the other person, since they don’t type anything.
Option A: Use the Passwords app #
On iOS 18 and later, saved Wi-Fi networks live in Apple’s Passwords app. Apple’s guide explains how to find and share your Wi-Fi password there. Open Passwords, go to the Wi-Fi section and tap your network. Recent versions offer to show the network as a QR code. If yours doesn’t, use option B.
Option B: Make a Wi-Fi QR code with an app #
QR Handler makes a Wi-Fi code on the iPhone that any Android camera can read:
- Open the Create tab and choose WiFi.
- Enter the network name exactly as it appears in Settings > Wi-Fi.
- Enter the password and choose WPA/WPA2 (right for nearly every home network).
- Tap Generate QR code.
- Tap the code to show it full screen. The app raises the screen brightness while it’s open so the other phone reads it easily.
The code is saved in your history, so next time a friend visits you just open it again. You can label it “Home Wi-Fi” to find it quickly. If you ever change your router password, make a new code.
On the Android phone #
- Open the camera and point it at the iPhone’s screen, or open Settings > Wi-Fi and tap the QR icon next to Add network.
- Tap the prompt to join the network.

Method 2: Find the password and share it #
If you’d rather just tell them the password:
- On iOS 18 or later, open the Passwords app, tap Wi-Fi, and choose the network to see its password. On iOS 16 and 17, go to Settings > Wi-Fi, tap the info button next to the network, and tap the Password field.
- Confirm with Face ID, Touch ID or your passcode to reveal it.
- Tap Copy and paste it into a message, or read it out.
Sending the password in a text leaves it in that conversation. For a guest you don’t know well, the QR code is tidier.
Method 3: Use the router #
Most routers have the network name and default password on a sticker, and many router apps can show or share the Wi-Fi details, sometimes as a QR code. If you set up a guest network in the router app, share that instead of your main network.
Going the other way: Android to iPhone #
This direction is built in. On the Android phone, Google’s steps are to open Settings > Network & internet > Internet, tap the network, then tap Share. A QR code appears. Should you print a Wi-Fi code instead? #
If people visit often, a printed code on the fridge or by the door saves you pulling out your phone. It’s the same code, saved to Photos and printed. Keep in mind that a Wi-Fi QR code contains your password in plain text: anyone who photographs it can join, and any scanner can display it. A guest network is the better thing to print.
